I was in bolivia this season. There is an updated version of this book (en francais) that came out a couple years ago, and then this June an edition translated into English came out. There are a fair amount of errors in the English edition, so you have to pay attention, but not bad. Lots of pictures, which is helpful. Focus is on Cordillera Real, with very little on Apolobamba, best to refer to Yossi Brains book for that. Lots of Brains book is outdated, what with the severe glacial recession. It can be helpful to have both books, but if you are only going to have one and will be going to the more heavily climbed areas (heavily climbed, relatively speaking), Mesili is best bet. his site (listed in review below) has detailed info on his book.
re: the author, there is some controversy, but as far as I know, it was never proved he was involved in the bombings, though he has certainly suffered from the accusations. he is an interesting figure. would recommend studying up on him to anyone curious about whats going on in the world or those who want to know more about the history of bolivian climbing (one could argue that he is the history of bolivian climbing).

le courage netouffe pas les critiqueurs, alors toi, soit disant lecteur de Aspen, puisque Amazon te permet de dire nimporte quoi, je pense que tu est un frustré et jattends que tu ose donner ton nom et ton adresse que je puisse te regarder en face. Ce que Alain naime pas ce sont les gens comme toi, quand aux Américains, il na rien contre eux, moi non plus, mais les gens comme toi, quelque soit leur pays ils me degouttent, passe me voir et on en discutera, mais cest vrais que le courage nest pas ta principale qualité, quand a amazon, ce nest pas un honneur pour eux de laisser dire des anonymes, puisquils ont tes coordonnées, quils les publient.

He was involved in the following terrorist attacks: the murder of two Mormons, he bombed the US Marines building in La Paz, kidnapping and murder of Coca Cola`s Managing Director in Bolivia. Alain Mesili called ¨The Jackal¨ was arrested in Miami. After four years on the run in America, Mesili was held in a series of jails before being transferred to Washington as a political prisoner. However, in 1995 the United States Government agreed to a swap with the Bolivian Government for a notable criminal. Mesili was brought back to Bolivia and held for two and a half years in the maximum security prison of Chonchocoro near La Paz. Born a Parisian in 1949, Mesili was a political activist in France during the 1968 disturbances. Frustrated with the failings of the French Communist Party he left Europe in 1969.
