Im from CA, so I never really had to deal with being very cold. Cotton socks were the only socks I knew, and they were always fine. When I moved to Jersey a few years ago however, I noticed something different - Its COLD in the winter. My feet were always the first to get cold whether inside or out. I finally read up on clothing/fabrics/layering and realized that cotton was not the best thing to wear as a base layer for keeping warm.
After searching for various options, I found these, which are great. They are long and keep my feet much warmer.
