Ponchos & Wraps
Traditional Peruvian alpaca ponchos and wraps. Authentic Andean designs handcrafted by skilled artisans.
Poncho vs ruana vs wrap
The poncho category technically includes three related but distinct silhouettes. A traditional poncho has a single opening for the head and falls evenly over both shoulders. A ruana has an open front (no head opening) and is essentially a long open-shoulder wrap that ties or buttons. A wrap is broader and typically draped without a fixed front opening, secured with a brooch or knot. Each has different uses: ponchos for cold-weather cover, ruanas for transitional layering, wraps for evening warmth over dressier outfits.
Sizing and proportion
Ponchos use generous one-size-fits-most construction by design — the silhouette is meant to drape rather than fit precisely. For petite frames (under 5′3″), our shorter-cut versions stay above the wrist; standard length covers to mid-forearm for average heights; tall-length options reach past the wrist for added warmth.
Pairing ponchos with outfits
Ponchos work best with simple, fitted base layers that don’t add visual bulk under the drape. Slim jeans, leggings, fitted skirts, or tailored trousers all pair well. Footwear matters more than people realize — ankle boots and tall boots both work, but flat sneakers can look proportionally awkward against the volume of a poncho. For evening wear, structured ponchos with belt detail can replace a coat over fitted dresses. Color coordination is forgiving because most poncho silhouettes drape over rather than directly against the underlying outfit.
